Distilleries Coming to Brooklyn

Granted, this is a site about beer, but I believe it’s worth mentioning when the guard sniffs at changing.
About 5 years ago, there was a lot of discussions on NYC (specifically Brooklyn) becoming the beer brewing haven it once was after the extreme success of Brooklyn Brewery. The good news is that a lot of great breweries have popped up, but none that have fully infiltrated the big poppa borough or reached the cultural impact Brooklyn Brewery had.
Now it looks like there is a slight swing to another form of drink – spirits. Some might not find it surprising – I’ve spent more money on intricate and bizarre cocktails in the past year than I have in my whole life. Two local distilleries (count em on two hands if you need to: one…two) are gearing up to open shop in Brooklyn. One of which is headed by Tom Potter, co-founder of Brooklyn Brewery.
Personally, I’d rather see two new breweries popping up in Brooklyn, but, then again, I’d also like to one day try to eat an entire garbage can of mashed potatoes (just to see if I could). Let’s just say that I’m glad I’m not a partial owner of the Hudson Whiskey company right now.
I’ll raise a glass to the potential success of these two distilleries, but don’t be surprised if my glass has a frothy head on it.
